Axbridge Chamber Win The Best Float in The Axbridge Carnival with Quality
Hot on the heals of the successful Axbridge showcase the Chamber put together a float for this year’s Axbridge Carnival. Their hard efforts paid off with a show stopping entry for the theme of adverts with Quality Street through the ages. The Chamber proudly were presented with first prize for their simple but effective float. The crowds watching loved the free sweets being thrown to them when going through the square. The team on the float showed great restraint while being judged as not many were eaten and most were given away.
A small team put together the float a big thank you t to Jess and Linda from the Crown who did the art work and sweets, Pat Filer from the Parsonage B and B who coordinated it all and Pete and Liz Scott from Moorland Farm who provided the tractor and trailer. The winning cups can be viewed at the Crown pub in Axbridge where they are being proudly displayed.

The Axbridge Chamber of Commerce worked hard to raise funds to put on the showcase this year so they could show what a wonderful place Axbridge it is to work and socialise in.
The Axbridge Chamber of Commerce Showcase committee can be very proud of the spectacular free entertainment they put together for the day and evening. This year’s theme made it extra special by celebrating V J day featuring a 1940’s theme.
The event was focused around the Medieval square in Axbridge. The day started with the Farmers Market and arrival of the military vehicles. The Mayor and Carnival Princess officially opened the day with a peel of bells from the church, which was then followed by a fantastic parade by the Axbridge and Cheddar Sea Cadets.
The day included appearances by The Morris Men, Punch and Judy, Messy Church and Voices of Axbridge. The museum and display of Historic documents were also popular with the visitors. The highlight of the day’s events was the arrival of the Classic Cars, what a treat for the car enthusiasts.
